You surely have listened to the mandolin more than you think. Do songs like REM‘s ‘Losing My Religion‘ sound familiar to you? Aerosmith‘s ‘Crazy‘? or “The Battle of Evermore” by Led Zeppelin? Well, this instrument that dates back to the 16th century it’s featured in all of them.
Basically, the mandolin is made up of four double strings (for a total of eight) tuned the same as the violin (sol-re-la-mi), at least in the Neapolitan version which is the one that has prevailed, although there are other variations. Its bright, ‘bell-like’ sound has inspired thousands of musicians, from Mozart to Goo Goo Dolls or Jehtro Tull.
This one that you see in the images is a Fender introduction pack that includes a case, strap, strings, chromatic tuner, picks and instructional material to get you started on this great little instrument.
